WELCOME TO A WINNING TRADITION

Georgetown College has a winning athletic tradition, and we are excited that you will be part of that tradition! If you are a student-athlete, you probably have a few questions about when you will be coming to campus and what you need to do prior to your arrival. During the summer months, fall sport athletes can expect to receive a report date from their coaches. This affects members of the football, soccer (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), cheerleading, and women’s volleyball teams. All other student-athletes can plan to move in with the rest of the first-time freshmen.

Each athlete will receive an official physical when they arrive on campus. This is required. Student-athletes are also required to have an updated insurance card of file. If an athlete needs medical treatment for an injury, they will be responsible for the first $500 of payments. The College’s policy will cover everything remaining after the initial $500.

HOW TO GET ELIGIBLE: THE NAIA ELIGIBILITY CENTER

All student-athletes – both first-year students and transfers – must be deemed eligible by the NAIA Eligibility Center prior to being allowed to participate in intercollegiate athletics.  Please log on to playnaia.org to get started on this process, which needs to be completed by the time you report to campus in the fall. Ms. Kimberly Chandler, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance, is happy to answer any questions about this process via e-mail.

Typically, student-athletes must meet two of the following three eligibility requirements: a 2.0 high school GPA, a score of 18 on the ACT or 970 on the SAT, and/or have graduated in the top 50% of their high school class. Due to COVID-19, the NAIA has continued the previously established ACT/SAT optional exception for the 2021-2022 academic year: first-year students will be deemed eligible if they have a 2.0 high school GPA. However, student-athletes who choose to use this exception will have an additional eligibility requirement to be eligible for their sophomore year. Student-athletes using the COVID-19 initial eligibility exception must also maintain a 2.0 GPA during their first year; this rule typically does not affect student-athletes until their junior year of college. All 2021-2022 entering freshmen can still become eligible by satisfying two out of the three requirements as normal and will not be required to meet the 2.0 GPA standard during their freshman year.
