Absentia Status at Commencement

All bachelors degree candidates are expected to participate in the commencement ceremony. If unavoidable conflicts prohibit their involvement, they must submit a written request to the Office of Academic Programs for permission to graduate in absentia. Their requests must reach the office by Friday, December 1.

You should pick up your diploma and official transcript in the Jones Hall Nelson Suite in the Cralle Student Center (#10), immediately following the ceremony. You must present a picture ID for Identification.

Note: Diplomas will be released only to graduates named on diplomas.

Drop off and parking for commencement guests with disabilities:

For those who need assistance reaching John L. Hill Chapel for the ceremony, we will have shuttle pick-up locations from multiple parking lots with a drop-off point at John L. Hill Chapel (#18).  Campus Safety will be available to assist guests at the parking lots listed below:

  • Lot A near the Georgetown H. W. Bush Center for Fitness/The Rec (#15)
  • Lot B near Anderson Hall (#3)
  • Lot C near Anderson Hall (#3)
  • Lot D near Knight Hall Dorm (#21)
  • Lot E across from the Ensor Learning Resource Center (#12)

Questions/Assistance During the Exercises

If you have questions or need assistance at any time during the commencement ceremony, please seek one of our ushers who will be stationed at the entrance doors to the chapel.  You will also find staff stationed thoughout campus identifed by a lanyard and a GC name tag who can assist with any questions you may have.


There will be a reception for graduates and their families immediately following the ceremony in the Wally and Gerry Montgomery Cafeteria located in the Cralle Student Center (#10).
