Additional Funds Distributed to Students

Georgetown College is pleased to announce the distribution of additional funds to students during this difficult and unprecedented time. The college will use funds received from the government stimulus package known as the CARES Act, as well as a refund from Sodexo and funds donated directly from the college to provide relief to students and help cover unexpected expenses.
President Will Jones said, “Times like these are difficult for everyone, and require that we try to become the best kind of college, and the best kind of people, that we can be: empathetic, excellent, and kind.”
The college will be sending every full-time, residential student who was eligible to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) this additional aid. The amount received will depend on a student’s eligibility to receive federal aid and their meal plan. Most residential, full-time students will receive between $500 and $1,300.
“The college’s staff and administration has been working hard for the past month to find funding to help you cover your additional costs, especially as regards to housing and food,” said President Jones. “Now, thanks to assistance from donors (especially, our alumni), from the Department of Education, and from our dining services partner, Sodexo, we will be able to do just that.”
Distribution of these funds will be in the form of a single check, with checks being mailed as soon as possible. Students will receive an email from Student Accounts alerting them when their checks have been mailed, and students do not need to do anything in order to receive these additional funds.
Georgetown College has also fully committed to honoring all institutional scholarships and grants. Student-athletes receiving athletic scholarships will continue to have their scholarships honored no matter the impact of Covid-19 on their upcoming seasons.
